Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the latest in the sprawling series that began in 2007, reportedly holds the best launch sales in the series for this current console generation, beating out launch sales for Origins, Syndicate and Unity.
Announced by Ubisoft, the developer attributes high review scores and positive player feedback for the strong sales. Though no solid numbers were given, we do know that Origins sold twice as fast as Syndicate in a 10-day period following launch. It’s unclear if the statistic includes Black Flag, which was released on current generation consoles as well as consoles from the previous generation, and shipped over 10 million units within two months.
“We are incredibly proud of what the team accomplished with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and humbled by the amazing reception from critics and players,” said Geoffroy Sardin, Ubisoft’s SVP of sales and marketing. “Based on the quality of the game and the very encouraging reactions from players, we expect Odyssey to be one of the top performing Assassin’s Creed games of all-time.”
In our review of Odyssey, we called the game “Amazing” saying, “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a resounding achievement in world building, environment, and engaging gameplay with occasional problems throughout.”
