Richard Hatch, the actor best known for his role as Captain Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica, has died. He was 71.
As reported by Bleeding Cool, Hatch passed away today, February 7, in the company of his family after having dealt with an extended health condition.

In addition to his role as Captain Apollo in the 1978 Battlestar Galactica film and television series, the latter of which earned in a Golden Globe nomination, Hatch starred as Tom Zarek in the re-imagined TV series. He also developed a short film called Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming and wrote a number of novels set in the beloved sci-fi universe.
