Celebi Appears in Pokemon Go

Johto’s mythical finally enters the game.

Celebi has been officially released in Pokemon Go.

At Pokemon Go Fest in Chicago today, attendees were given the chance to catch Celebi via the game’s Special Research during a Pokemon Go Fest-specific quest line.

The five-part quest led players across the event’s 1.8-mile walking course in Chicago’s Lincoln Park. The quest included tasks ranging from catching various types of Pokemon to finding the elusive Unown.

Unown (which can take the form of 26 different letters or two punctuation marks) spawning in Lincoln Park during the event spelled out “CELEBI?,” which marks the introduction of the question mark variant in Pokemon Go.

For now, this quest is Pokemon Go Fest-exclusive, and it’s not yet clear how or when Celebi will become available for those who didn’t attend the event.

Celebi is the second Mythical Pokemon to appear in Pokemon Go, following the appearance of Mew with the introduction of Special Research earlier this year.

Niantic hinted that Celebi was coming last week, nearly completing generation 2 in Pokemon Go with the exception of Smeargle, who is now the sole Johto Pokemon who has not yet appeared in-game.

Pokemon Go Fest will continue through July 15 in Chicago. Stay tuned to IGN for more from the event.
