Joanne Whalley (Wolf Hall) has been cast in Season 3 of Netflix and Marvel’s Daredevil, reportedly as Matt Murdock’s mother, Sister Maggie.
As reported by Deadline, Maggie was first mentioned in the final moments of The Defenders’ season finale. While not confirmed, Whalley’s casting and The Defenders’ conclusion seem to indicate Daredevil: Season 3 will take inspiration from the comic’s Born Again story arc.

“We are big fans of Joanne’s work and are fortunate that someone of her caliber will be joining our already talented family,” said Marvel’s head of TV, Jeph Loeb.
Season 3 showrunner Erik Oleson added, “Joanne is a rare talent and a terrific creative collaborator. Watching her bring her role to life has the writers all pinching ourselves.”
In addition to series regulars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, and Elden Henson, Whalley joins Vincent D’Onofrio, who will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in Season 3.
Netflix has yet to set a date for Daredevil’s third season. While you wait, check out IGN’s Daredevil: Season 2 review, which said it “excels at both action and story while giving us a much more complex and layered season than the first.”
