DC Comics has announced a new partnership with Walmart, one that will see DC publish a series of monthly “Giant” comics to be sold exclusively in Walmart retailers. These oversized anthology books will feature a variety of new stories and reprints focused on iconic characters like Batman, Superman and the Justice League.
Among the new stories included in these comics is the first Batman project from newly DC-exclusive writer Brian Michael Bendis. Other stories include a Superman tale from writer Tom King and artist Andy Kubert and a Wonder Woman story from Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti.

The series’ first original story is a two-part tale called “Endurance” from writer Jimmy Palmiotti and artist Tom Derenick. This story involves Clark Kent investigating a story in Tornado Alley, only for his alter ego to come to the rescue when another tornado strikes. Following that, Superman Giant #3 will begin a 12-part storyline from King and Kubert called “Up in the Sky!”, which sends Superman on an interstellar journey to track down a kidnapped child.
The first issue will also feature reprints of the Terrifics #1, Green Lantern (2005) #1 and Superman/Batman #1.
Batman Giant #1
The first two issues of Batman Giant will feature a story called “One More Chance,” from writer Jimmy Palmiotti and artist Patrick Zircher. This story features Batman following a case back to an important place from his past. Batman Giant #3 kicks off “Universe,” from Bendis and an undisclosed artist. [update – Bendis later tweeted that Nick Derington will be drawing the story] This story features a new encounter between Batman and the Riddler, one that quickly grows into a globetrotting investigation.
Batman Giant #1 will also feature reprints of Batman #608, Nightwing (2011) #1 and Harley Quinn (2013) #1.
Justice League of America Giant #1
The original stories in this series will be Wonder Woman-centric. Issue #1 features “The Conversion” from writer Tim Seeley and artists Rick Leonardi and Brian Buccellato, as Ares attempts to recruit Diana. Issue #2 will feature Seeley working with artists Felipe Watanabe and Chris Sotomayor for “Mother’s day,” as Diana returns to Paradise Island only to find her fellow Amazons kidnapped by Echidna. Issue #3 begins a 12-part story from Conner and Palmiotti called “Come Back to Me,” which features Diana traveling to a strange, time-displaced island to rescue Steve Trevor.
Justice League of America Giant #1 will also feature reprints of Justice League (2011) #1, The Flash (2011) #1 and Aquaman (2011) #1.
Teen Titans Giant #1
The first six issues of this series will feature a new story from writer Dan Jurgens and artists Scot Eaton, Wayne Faucher and Jim Charalampidis, with the organization HIVE joining forces with a new villain named The Disruptor to destroy the Titans.
Teen Titans Giant #1 will also feature reprints of Super Sons #1, Sideways #1 and Teen Titans (2003) #1.
All four DC Giant series will carry a cover price of $4.99 and should be available in Walmart stores by July 1. Beginning in August, new issues of Superman Giant and Justice League of America Giant will arrive in the first week of the month, with new issues of Batman Giant and Teen Titans Giant following about two weeks later.
