The Incredibles 2 director Brad Bird doesn’t want to make sequels to Ratatouille and The Iron Giant.
In an interview with iO9, Bird explained he doesn’t think there’ll be anything interesting to explore in both sequels. The filmmaker instead wants to focus on new projects.
“You know, I feel like that story is told,” Bird said, talking about making a new Ratatouille movie. “I’m told I need to do an Iron Giant 2 and I’m told I need to remake everything that I’ve made and no one apparently wants anything new anymore.
“I’m a little at odds with society on that. I would like to do some new things.”
Bird said he’s done telling his stories for The Iron Giant, Ratatouille, and Mission Impossible, even though he just finished making a sequel in Incredibles 2. Bird admits the public’s desire for these sequels, though complimentary, can be creatively frustrating.
The Incredibles 2 opens in theaters on June 14 in Australia, June 15 in the U.S., and July 13 in the UK.
