Dragon Quest XI Slime Is PS4’s Weirdest Controller

Currently only slated for release in Japan.

Alongside the release of Dragon Quest XI in Japan, peripheral manufacturer Hori will launch a Slime-shaped DualShock 4 on July 29.

As reported by 4Gamer (via Hachima and translation courtesy of Kotaku), the new PlayStation 4 controller will cost 9,980 yen ($90 USD). All of the buttons found on a standard DualShock 4, including the d-pad, analog sticks, face buttons, touch pad, and Share and Option buttons, can be found on the underside of the controller.

The controller is currently only announced for release in Japan.

This isn’t the first time Hori has made a controller like this for PlayStation owners, as a similarly-shaped Slime controller was also created for PS2.

Dragon Quest XI releases for PlayStation 4 and 3DS in Japan on July 29. While the two versions will be available for purchase separately, Square Enix will also release the “Dragon Quest XI Double Pack: Hero Sword Box,” which bundles the PS4 and 3DS versions together in a single package.

While series creator Yuji Horii confirmed Dragon Quest XI is also coming to Nintendo Switch, Square Enix has yet to provide any additional details on the Switch version’s release.
