Briarcliff Entertainment has released the first trailer for El Chicano, the first superhero movie with an all-Hispanic cast. Raúl Castillo (Looking) stars as an LAPD Detective, Diego Hernandez, whose investigation into his brother’s suicide and the local cartel forces him to adopt the mantle of El Chicano, “The Ghetto Grim Reaper,” to wage a war agains the gangs threatening to destroy his city. It looks cool. It’s basically Batman in the Barrio.
The film marks the feature-film directing debut of Ben Hernandez Bray, a veteran stuntman whose work includes Iron Man, Star Trek, The Gray, and three Transformers movies. Adding to his superhero resume, Bray has also directed episodes of Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl. For El Chicano, Bray also co-wrote the script with Joe Carnahan, who penned the scripts for action flicks like Smokin’ Aces, The A-Team, and the upcoming remake of The Raid.
