Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor is reportedly in talks to play the lead role in the Mike Flanagan-directed Doctor Sleep, which serves as a follow-up to Stephen King’s horror masterpiece, The Shining…
We’re still not sure whether Ewan McGregor will return for that long-rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi movie of not, but in the meantime, the Scottish actor has lined up another huge project for Warner Bros.
According to Variety, McGregor is in talks to play the grownup Danny Torrance in Doctor Sleep, which will be helmed by horror maestro Mike Flanagan (Hush, Before I Wake, Gerald’s Game).
Stephen King’s novel of the same name is a sequel to The Shining, and catches up with Danny in his 40s as he struggles with the same demons of anger and alcoholism that plagued his murderous father. Once he gets sober his “shine” returns, and he sets out to rescue a young girl with similar powers from a sinister group known as The True Knot.
Apparently, King has given his blessing to McGregor’s casting.
