Yet another DLC episode is coming to Final Fantasy XV, and DLC may not wrap up until 2019.
With Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition and Royal Edition right around the corner, Dengeki Online took the opportunity to have a chat with director Hajime Tabata and game designers Yoichi Kuroda and Takeshi Terada.
During the interview, Tabata explained future plans for Final Fantasy XV. Last year, Tabata talked about new DLC episodes that are in store for 2018, mentioning that the team would create 3 new episodes for the year. However, that plan has now been adjusted, with a fourth episode coming as well.
“After thinking with the team about with what kind of content we want to finish this game with, we decided to make it 4 new episodes,” Tabata explained.
Tabata says that he does not want to rush these new episodes, and intends to “prepare them with even more care.” With this in mind, there is a possibility that some of the later episodes might release after 2018.
Sticking with the original plan, the first episode will be about fan favorite Ardyn. Tabata didn’t reveal which characters the other three episodes will focus on.
However, when asked whether we might see an episode about Lunafreya, Tabata reacted saying, “Well, she does appear on the box-art of Royal Edition,” which can be considered a tease. (He similarly teased the possibility of a Luna episode in an interview with IGN last year.)
He went on to mention that the team values fan opinions from a 2017 survey asking fans what DLC they want next, and hopes that they look forward to what’s coming.
In related news, a Half-Life pack was announced for Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition. If you are thinking about joining Noctis and co for the Windows Edition or Royal Edition, which will be released on March 6, be sure to check IGN’s review of the original game.
Esra Krabbe is an editor at IGN Japan. He is also thinking about going back to Final Fantasy XV when the new editions release.
