‘Game of Thrones: The Last Watch’ Trailer Is Filled With Jon Snow Tears

HBO has released an official trailer for Game of Thrones: The Last Watch, the two-hour documentary set to air a week after Game of Thrones‘ finale that dives behind-the-scenes of the biggest show on television. Kit Harington cries so much, the adorable scamp.

This thing actually looks fascinating, no matter what you think about the quality of season 8. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss might’ve plotted the end of Thrones like two Dungeon Masters hopped up on cocaine, but the sheer effort that goes into making this show is staggering. A single episode of Game of Thrones season 8 is basically a feature-length film, and from the cinematography to production design to costuming to VFX and beyond the work that goes on behind-the-scenes is genuinely astounding. (I would like to see some footage of someone deciding “The Long Night” needed to take place in a type of anti-light impenetrable to the human eye, though.)

Plus, look at all those emotional faces, man. No amount of wonky writing will make us forget we kind’ve fell in love with these characters over eight seasons. Bring on them Westerosi tears.

Check out the trailer below. Game of Thrones: The Last Watch airs on HBO May 26.

Here is HBO’s official synopsis for Game of Thrones: The Last Watch (which is not to be confused with the reunion special, which you can only see if you buy the Blu-ray) :

Made with unprecedented access, GAME OF THRONES: THE LAST WATCH is an up-close and personal report from the trenches of production, following the crew and the cast as they contend with extreme weather, punishing deadlines and an ever-excited fandom hungry for spoilers.

Much more than a “making of” documentary, this is a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world — and then have to say goodbye to it.
