Halo: Reach For PC Will Launch With Unofficial Mod Support

With the Halo: Reach launch imminent, players have been posting their lingering questions to the official Halo Reddit, and one of the queries raised included whether Halo: Reach on PC will launch with mod support. A 343 Industries employee replied, confirming the team is working on improving mod support – but at the moment it can only be done in a roundabout way.”Hi! We’re still working to improve this down the road, but for now you will have an option when you launch to bypass anticheat. This will allow you to play around with campaign and customs but not allow you to play any match made games.” said employee 343_farn. Questions about mod support for Halo: Reach

have been raised in the past. Earlier this year during a Master Chief Collection, Halo: Reach, and Halo Insider AMA, Brian Jarrard, also known as ske7ch343 on Reddit, said the team would be working alongside the modding community and the ElDewrito team to try and bring official mod support to Halo: Reach. He emphasized, however, the priority was getting the games “right,” with security and anti-cheat a big focus on PC.

“We are working closely with the members of the modding community (including some friends on the ElDewrito team) to explore our options for ‘official’ mod support, but we won’t have this at launch. Our #1 priority for launch is ensuring we get each of these core games ‘right’ for PC and security/anti-cheat is a big focus. As we’ve stated, this entire offering will grow and evolve over time.”

343 Industries recommended that players back up or make copies of files they modify to simplify the transition between the modded version of the game and the original. Another Redditor replying to the thread mentioned there were “plenty of videos” of some unofficial Halo: Reach mods “in action.”

Halo: Reach is scheduled to launch Tuesday at 10 AM PST/ 1 PM EST. For international launch times, see the tweet from Halo community manager John Junyszek below.
