The first trailer for Hotel Artemis has landed online, revealing Iron Man 3 co-writer Drew Pearce’s feature directorial debut. Written and directed by Pearce, the film takes place in a near-future Los Angeles and revolves around a secret members-only hospital that caters to criminals. Run by The Nurse (Jodie Foster), the hospital has various rules (including no weapons and no murdering other patients) that are put into question when an object of great value enters its gates.
Comparisons to John Wick will no doubt be made here, as the setup of Hotel Artemis feels quite similar to the network of hotels that populate the John Wick universe. But the film also looks to set itself apart aside from the surface similarities with a story all its own and a star-studded cast, led by Sterling K. Brown, Jeff Goldblum, and Atlanta breakout Brian Tyree Henry.
Pearce was brought on to co-write Iron Man 3 with Shane Black and the two got along famously, coming up with the brilliant Mandarin twist that sets that film apart in the MCU. Pearce went on to direct the Marvel One-Shot All Hail the King, and Hotel Artemis marks his ambitious feature debut as a filmmaker.
