Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions has been announced for Nintendo 3DS and will release on October 6. It’s already available for preorder.
Nintendo revealed the game during its Treehouse Live event today at E3 2017 and relayed the news on Twitter. The title is a remake of the original Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and features a new mode called Minion Quest.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions sports updated visuals that feature the same pixel art from the original 2003 Game Boy Advance game. Additionally, 3D lighting has been added, which helps to highlight the various character animations.
The game’s new mode, Minion Quest, features a story that runs parallel to Mario and Luigi’s adventure from Superstar Saga. Minion Quest stars Captain Goomba and has an entirely different battle system. Carefully choosing how you place your units, deploy them, and use their skills in each battle is key to victory.
Additionally, a new Goomba and Koopa Troopa amiibo were announced, both of which will have special functionality in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions. While Nintendo isn’t ready to detail what that functionality is just yet, the company did confirm that the already available Boo amiibo will also be compatible.
Rumblings of an updated version of Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga for 3DS surfaced earlier this year when a dataminer claimed to have discovered information regarding Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga DX in a 3DS database.
