Marvel Comics is releasing a series of teasers for a mysterious project called Incoming! We don’t know much about this upcoming comic in terms of length or creative team. All we know is that Incoming! will debut in the final week of December and build on several major storylines from 2019, even as it introduces a pivotal new murder mystery in the Marvel Universe.
Read on for a breakdown of all the teasers revealed so far, along with some speculation about what Incoming! could mean for the future of Marvel’s heroes. We’ll continue to update this article as new teasers are revealed. Warning: beware of spoilers for House of X #2!
Update: Marvel released two more teasers today, one of which promises a full reveal of Incoming! on the next episode of Marvel’s Pull List podcast. We’ll update this article again once the full reveal is made.
“A Galactic Threat”
This teaser from Paul Renaud shows the Avengers confronting a powerful enemy with golden skin. This is probably a resurrected Michael Korvac, the villain of a classic Avengers storyline called “The Korvac Saga.” Another possibility is that this is a reborn version of Adam Warlock, another character known for their gold skin tone.
“A Titanic Division”
This teaser shows the teen heroes known as the Champions gathered around a TV screen. The good news is this suggests Marvel is planning a relaunch of the series following its recent cancellation. The bad news is the tagline “A Titanic Division” suggests the team will be split in two over a new political crisis in the Marvel Universe.
“A Mysterious Murder”
This teaser (which appears to be drawn by Guardians of the Galaxy artist Geoff Shaw) features the Avengers and Fantastic Four gathered around a dead body. Like 2014’s Original Sin before it, Incoming! may revolve around the heroes of the Marvel U. confronting a murder mystery with cosmic implications. It could be that the victim is a character with ties to both the Avengers and Fantastic Four. However, the presence of Jane Foster (who recently became the new Valkyrie) suggests this could be a fallen Asgardian. We can’t help but notice Thor is conspicuously absent in this image…
“A Deadly Alliance”
This teaser from artist Declan Shalvey strongly hints that Incoming! will build on the events of House of X and Powers of X and the new status quo established for mutantkind. Those two series have radically changed X-Men history thanks to the reveal that Moira MacTaggert is a mutant who keeps reincarnating in the womb with her memories intact. Moira is currently on her tenth life cycle, still struggling to create a future where the mutant race isn’t wiped out by Sentinels. Having already united Professor X and Magneto in a common cause, it looks as though Apocalypse will be joining the fold next. This image shows Xavier holding a flower from Krakoa, the living island that now serves as the home of a new mutant nation on the moon.
“A Glimpse of Eternity”
This teaser from Valerio Schiti (Tony Stark: Iron Man) looks to build directly on the events of Marvel Comics #1000. While that issue featured 80 different one-page stories, a number of stories from writer Al Ewing combined to form a connected storyline about a cosmic artifact known as the Eternity Mask. That issue ended with the debut of a new version of Wild West hero the Masked Raider. That new character appears in the teaser alongside Daredevil and Jessica Jones, suggesting both heroes will be drawn into the mystery of the Masked Raider’s identity.
“One Will Unite Them”
Marvel’s first teaser for Incoming! follows a slightly different format, featuring a silhouetted, sword-wielding hero with the tagline “One will unite them.” This mystery character appears to be Young Avengers member Hulking. As the son of Kree hero Mar-Vell and Skrull Princess Annelle, Hulking is a product of two rival space empires. This story could involve Hulking finally uniting his two peoples. The eyes above Hulking may belong to the Masked Raider, a sign that these seemingly disparate plot threads are all part of a larger conflict.
