The Infinity Wars crossover has just introduced remade the fabric of the Marvel Universe in a very strange way.
Warning: this article contains spoilers for Infinity Wars #3!
Infinity Wars has been an eventful storyline already. To recap, ex-Guardian of the Galaxy Gamora has taken on a new identity as Requiem, used her Power Stone-encrusted sword to decapitate Thanos and then claimed the remaining Infinity Stones to become the most powerful being in the universe.
When her father held all six Infinity Stones, he used that power to wipe out half of all life in the universe. As issue #3 reveals, Gamora has a similar goal in mind, but her methods are a little different. Instead of outright murdering trillions of beings, Gamora uses her power to fold the universe in half and combine two souls into one. The result is Warp World, a strange realm inside the Soul Stone where popular Marvel characters have been fused into hybrid heroes called Infinity Warps.
These bizarre superhero mash-ups include Soldier Supreme (a fusion of Captain America and Doctor Strange) and Ghost Panther (Ghost Rider mixed with Black Panther). But easily the most colorful and surreal of these hybrid heroes is the unnamed Wolverine/Emma Frost Infinity Warp. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if Wolverine had the blond hair and cold, British haughtiness of Emma Frost, now you know.
The debut of Warp World promises to have major ramifications for the crossover going forward. Starting next week, Marvel will begin publishing various spinoff miniseries spotlighting the various Infinity Warps. So far, Marvel has announced these spinoff titles:
- Infinity Wars: Soldier Supreme #1-2 by Gerry Duggan & Adam Kubert
