Though all of these species of monsters are obtainably naturally in Monster Hunter Stories, these represent the special Monsties the characters ride in the game and anime, and naturally have good genes and decent skills. Some are difficult to find Read each Amiibo’s section for more information!
Monster Hunter Stories will automatically give you a short tutorial about Amiibo when you’re able to use them very early on in the game. From then on, talk to the Felyne, Connecticat, to scan Amiibo. You can usually find Connecticat nearby the Quest Board in all towns. Below, see the list of special Amiibo.
EditBarioth (Glacier) and Ayuria
|The Barioth (Glacier) and Ayuria (Avinia in English) Amiibo grants Frostfang, Avinia’s companion in Monster Hunter Stories.
Though not usable until a decent way through the game due to its high rarity rating, Frostfang absolutely comes in handy, as Barioth don’t appear in-game until very, very late in the game.
Ice Res (M)
Ice Boost (M)
Dan’s Qurupeco Amiibo unlocks Dan’s Qurupeco.
Though not particularly powerful enough in the endgame, early access to its Monster Call field skill is incredibly valuable.
Power Boost (S)
Fire Res (S)
Burn Rate+ (M)
Tech Boost (S)
|The Navirou Amiibo unlocks Navtonoth, an Aptonoth.
Herbivores tend to be pretty weak, but this Aptonoth has pretty interesting skills.
All Status Rate+ (M)
EditRathian and Cheval
|The Rathian and Cheval Amiibo unlocks Rathi, Cheval’s partner in Monster Hunter Stories.
Since Rathi is usable very early in the game, this Monstie is particularly useful and will probably be your most powerful party member for at least the first few hours.
Power Boost (S)
Fire Boost (M)
Burn Rate+ (M)
EditOne-Eyed Rathalos and Rider (Boy)
|The One-Eyed Rathalos and Rider (Boy) Amiibo unlocks Boy’s Ratha.
Though Rathalos is pretty cool, this one isn’t particularly useful. You won’t be able to use Boy’s Ratha until after you receive a Rathalos of your own because of its inflated Rarity.
Fire Boost (S)
Critical Eye (M)
EditOne-Eyed Rathalos and Rider (Girl)
|The One-Eyed Rathalos and Rider (Girl) unlocks Girl’s Ratha.
Though Rathalos is pretty cool, this one isn’t particularly useful. You won’t be able to use Girl’s Ratha until after you receive a Rathalos of your own because of its inflated rarity. This Rathalos is a bit unique however, because it has the genes – and skills – of a Rathian.
Fire Res (M)
Poison Rate+ (M)
Other Amiibo award one or more somewhat rare, random items that can be used in battle. These include mostly healing and support items like:
- Surrogate Gem
- Max Potion
- Nulberry Elixer
