Update: Shortly after revealing the Kingdom Hearts 3 Twilight Town screenshots, Square Enix released yet another batch of new KH3 screens.
Check out the gallery below to see images and character renders rom the Hercules-based world, Olympus.
Hercules has been part of the franchise since its first entry, with the Olympus Coliseum serving as a world and primarily a challenge arena in Kingdom Hearts 1. Sora, Donald, and Goofy returned to Herc’s world in Kingdom Hearts 2, only to explore the Underworld of Hades. KH3 looks to be taking things northward, toward Olympus, as we’ve seen in previously gameplay and trailers.
Original story follows:
Square Enix debuted nine new Kingdom Hearts 3 screenshots, and three character renders, highlighting the returning cast from Kingdom Hearts 2’s Twilight Town.
Previously glimpsed in trailers already, the screenshots, which you can check out in the gallery below, show off Hayden, Pence, and Olette and highlight areas like Ansem’s lab, the Old Mansion, and more.
Of course, these characters first debuted in Kingdom Hearts 2, during that sequel’s introductory sequence featuring Sora’s Nobody, Roxas. While we really haven’t seen much of Roxas himself in the glimpses of Kingdom Hearts 3 so far, he’s clearly an integral part of the plot, given the frequent mentions of him in past trailers.
The initial tweet accompanying these photos from the Kingdom Hearts account came with the teaser line “Sora meets Hayner, Pence and Olette in Twilight Town, but will they be able to help Roxas in #KingdomHearts III?”
The mystery of Roxas’ place in the story may be one of the greatest mysteries leading into Kingdom Hearts 3, but we’ve learned plenty else about the long-awaited entry in the franchise. Square recently confirmed KH3’s opening theme song will be produced by returning composer Utada Hikaru, as well as Skrillex, and Haley Joel Osment is set to return as Sora in KH3.
If you’re looking for more on Kingdom Hearts 3, be sure to check out the official box art, take a look at the previously revealed Sora Nendroid figure, and check out the confirmed KH3 worlds and locations in the gallery below.
And if you’re looking to jump into the franchise and catch up ahead of KH3, Square Enix will release a Kingdom Hearts compilation later this month for PS4 players.
Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released for PS4 and Xbox One on Jan. 29, 2019.
