With Hurricane Nate approaching the Gulf of Mexico, New Orleans museums are preparing to close for part of this weekend.

The hurricane, which has recently been upgraded from a tropical storm, is expected to make landfall in Louisiana on Saturday night. It’s currently categorized as a Category 1 storm, with the chance of it becoming a Category 2 or 3 hurricane.

According to its website, the New Orleans Museum of Art will close tomorrow, with the expectation that it will reopen on Sunday at noon. Its Friday night events, however, will continue as planned.

Likewise, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art tweeted this evening that it will close tomorrow. It also expects to reopen on Sunday afternoon.

The Contemporary Arts Center will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, and has postponed its Arts For Arts’ Sake festival until further notice.

Tulane University’s Newcomb Art Museum has not yet announced its plans for the storm.
