Nightwing has a new secret identity after recovering from a recent trauma.
Warning: this article contains spoilers for Nightwing #51!
For those who haven’t been following the Batman books in recent months, Nightwing was recently shot in the head by KGBeast. The attack didn’t kill him, but it left him with major brain trauma and a bad case of amnesia.
At this point, Nightwing has no memory of his life as a superhero or loved ones like Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth and Barbara Gordon. He’s doing his best to leave his old life as Dick Grayson behind, returning to Bludhaven and taking up a new career as a taxi driver. And as Nightwing #51 reveals, he even has a new identity – Ric Grayson.
Whether intentionally or not, the series seems to be mirroring the events of the new live-action Titans streaming show. In both cases, Dick has pulled away from Bruce and Alfred and set out on his own path, though obviously the reasons are very different. And when it comes to this story, it’s clear that Alfred isn’t taking the “death” of Dick Grayson and the rise of Ric Grayson very well.
