A Bayonetta announcement is being teased by Sega.
An official countdown has begun over on the Sega website. At first glance it’s difficult to make out what’s being teased, but once you see the image (pictured below) behind the countdown as a whole, the tease becomes clear.
At this point we don’t have much to go on. That said, on April Fool’s Day Sega released an 8-Bit version of Bayonetta on Steam, and while it’s easy to write off April Fool’s shenanigans as a joke, it’s more than plausible the jest could be a sly hint at a PC port.
It’s also worth remembering at last year’s E3 PlatinumGames’ director Hideki Kamiya was asked about a potential third entry into the series, to which he replied “Of course we want to make 3,” before asking, “Why should it end at 2?”
Or, of course, there’s always the possibility of a Bayonetta-related release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, although given Nintendo personally published Bayonetta 2, it’d be worth waiting until Sega comments in seven days to avoid getting your hopes up.
“The superb pacing and combat are just that good. By the end I was convinced: This sequel builds on everything that made the original great, and delivers one of the most satisfying action games I’ve played.”
