Paramount is developing a new G.I. Joe spin-off movie centered around Snake Eyes, and Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding is reportedly in early talks to play the titular ninja character.
The news comes from Variety, whose sources report Paramount is working to find a new direction for the G.I. Joe franchise. Snake Eyes previously appeared in 2009’s G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation, where he was played by Ray Park (Star Wars: Episode I). As with last year’s Transformers prequel Bumblebee, Paramount looks to be shifting focus to smaller, character-driven spin-offs of its Hasbro properties.
