Marvel’s Spider-Man has only been available on PS4 for a week, but that hasn’t stopped many players from looking ahead to the webhead’s future on PlayStation.
Speaking to IGN during our IGN Beyond Spider-Man PS4 spoilercast, as seen in the clip above, Insomniac Games’ Bryan Intihar, creative director on Spider-Man, couldn’t of course confirm any sort of full sequel in the works, but did explain that the development team intended to leave players of the original with some lingering questions.
“We wanted to have questions people may talk about and debate what the future could hold,” Inithar said during the spoilercast.
Of course, what answers Insomniac may have for those questions will likely remain a mystery for awhile longer, but Intihar did say they want to keep players “engaged in our Spider-Man universe.”
“Nothing to announce [regarding a sequel] but we obviously want to keep you engaged in our Spider-Man universe. That’s why we said right off the bat you’re going to have three drops of DLC. It’s not just activities in the city, this is a full story. You’re going to be able to get a pretty chunky, new experience,” Intihar said.
Speaking of that three-part Spider-Man DLC, with the first release coming in October, Intihar said the first entry focusing on Black Cat will similarly aim to subvert expectations just as Spider-Man’s main narrative did.
“You’re going to see some twists and turns you might not expect with Spider-Man and Black Cat. And then that will set up the other two that will be released before the end of the year,” he said.
In addition to those story-focused updates, Insomniac has confirmed a New Game Plus mode for Spider-Man is in the works, and it looks like players won’t have to wait relatively long to try it out.
“It’s not done yet but we’re working on it…The next thing up is New Game Plus,” Intihar said.
