It looks like a new Bravely Default game may be on the way if the Bravely Default Twitter account is anything to go by.
As per Nibellion on Twitter, Square Enix’s official Bravely Default account has changed its name to what translates as “Bravely ◯◯◯◯◯” (possibly teasing an unannounced subtitle) and updated its banner with a new image, which appears to show the character Airy from the Bravely Default series.
The tweet also asks fans to “look forward” to new games from Square Enix’s Business Division 11, the studio behind Octopath Traveller.

The changes to the account were made at the same time as a tweet celebrating the one million units shipped milestone for Octopath Traveler. The one million copies sold artwork was first tweeted last week, and the outline bore some resemblance to Airy from Bravely Default. In the account’s new Twitter banner artwork, the image is reversed and the shadow on the wall is unquestionably the silhouette of a fairy.
It’s possible that the tease could be referring to a Switch port of Bravely Default, or Bravely Second: End Layer, rather than a new entry in the series, but either way, we’ll have to wait and see.
Bravely Default launched in 2013 on the 3DS, and we called it “a fairly traditional JRPG, albeit one that is exceptionally refined, characterful and well-made,” in our review.
The sequel released in 2016, but we thought that the game was “significantly let down by an underwhelming and perfunctory narrative that can make progression a real chore” by comparison.
We’ll have to wait for more updates before we find out if a third addition to the series is on its way.
