Tommy’s Powers Are on the Fritz in Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragon

A new conflict brings Tommy back into the game.

Fan-favorite Power Ranger Tommy Oliver is getting the premiere treatment in an original graphic novel called Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragon. The story finds Tommy long after he left his life as a Power Ranger, but when his son is put in danger, he must tap into his old power to save him, while also confronting a secret from his past. It’s written by Kyle Higgins, who proved his understanding of what makes Tommy special with his three-year MMPR comic saga that introduced hit villain Lord Drakkon, an alternate-reality version of Tommy. Drawn by Giuseppe Cafaro, the comic was created with input from the original Green Ranger actor himself, Jason David Frank, who acted as a special consultant.

IGN has your first look inside the graphic novel with an unlettered, 10-page preview, courtesy of publisher BOOM! Studios. You’ll notice that Tommy is able to morph into his most recent Power Ranger persona, the Black Dino Ranger, in order to fight off some monsters, but his powers appear to be on the fritz, which hints at one of the struggles he’ll be working to overcome over the course of the story.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragon goes on sale December 5.
