Ubisoft seems to be teasing fans with… something to do with Far Cry 3.
On its Facebook page, the developer posted a picture of the game’s Rook Island setting, along with a sentence in French that translates to “an island we never truly left.” On its Instagram page, it adds “does that remind of you something?”
It also linked to a picture of Far Cry 3 villain and fan favourite, Vaas, accompanied by his most famous line of dialogue.
It’s not clear what Ubisoft is teasing here. Some online rumours have suggested Ubisoft will make a sequel or prequel to the third game’s storyline, although these are by no means substantiated. A remaster is also possible, especially if the mainline series does indeed take another year to return.
That said, with the game turning 5 years old this year, it may simply be that Ubisoft is starting anniversary celebrations for one of its more enduringly popular games a little early. We have contacted Ubisoft for comment.
The developer/publisher has been vague about when we might see a return to the series following last year’s non-numbered Far Cry Primal, but the world of Far Cry 3 might well be a popular choice – we awarded the game a 9.0 in 2012, saying it’s “a shooter that considers shooters thoughtfully, both in the way they’re designed and the way we play them, and then asks us to do the same”.
