Anthem will not have a player-vs-player mode at launch and will require an online connection to play, executive producer Mark Darrah confirmed on Twitter Saturday.
After EA debuted new gameplay footage of Anthem at its EA Play event, Darrah took to Twitter to answer fan questions.
Darrah later added that the always-online requirement is due to Anthem’s use of dedicated servers.
Darrah then clarified his statements regarding PvP modes, stating “We MAY look at it. Nothing planned yet,” signaling that PvP modes aren’t a part of Anthem’s immediate future, if at all.
Earlier today, it was revealed that Anthem will not feature any romances, a staple of previous BioWare games. Darrah added on Twitter that “It is not a technical limitation, but a design choice. The door is not closed for after launch.”
Anthem will be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC (via Origin) on February 22, 2019. For more details on Anthem and brand new gameplay footage, check out our hands-on impressions of Anthem.
