Marvel has announced Strange Academy, a new comic book series that will be released early in 2020. Strange Academy will tell the coming of age story of a group of young sorcerers who are learning to control and utilize their powers from none other than Doctor Steven Strange.Marvel’s Strange Academy comic will be set in New Orleans — a city filled with a rich history of magic folklore. The comic will provide a healthy mix of Marvel favorites, like Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch, but will also debut a handful of new characters.
The project will be headed up by Skottie Young and Humberto Ramos, two Marvel comic veterans. Speaking about the project, Young told the Associated Press that Strange Academy would likely appeal to fans of the Harry Potter franchise, as the Academy will be very similar to that of Hogwarts.
Young is hoping that Strange Academy will be able to tell the “classic coming of age stories that we’ve seen in so many other properties or other projects out there in the world whether it be TV or film or novels or comics.”
Ramos, known for his work on the Spider-Man comics, said that the idea was initially pitched to him by Young on a weekend trip to Mexico.
“Like all great stories, they all start with an idea…and this idea blew me away,” Ramos said. “We can’t share too much yet, but if you stick around, you’ll get to experience magic like you’ve never seen before in the Marvel Universe. Welcome to Strange Academy! Man, I love the first day of school!”
The first issue of Marvel’s Strange Academy is set to be released in March 2020. In the meantime check out the first official Black Widow trailer, which releases May 1, 2020 in theaters.
