This page contains a full walkthrough for P.T. (2014, PS4) and Unreal PT (a PC and VR remake from 2019).
During Sony’s 2014 Gamescom Press Conference on 12th August 2014, a free demo for a new horror game, P.T., was briefly mentioned. This trailer was shown and the demo went live on PSN almost immediately. The demo was removed on May 5, 2015.
Not long after the demo went live, people discovered that beating the demo revealed that P.T. is a brand new Silent Hill game, titled ‘Silent Hills‘ headed up by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro.
Unfortunately Silent Hills has officially been cancelled by Konami, and P.T. will be gone from the PSN Store as of 04/29/2015. Players who already downloaded it will keep it in their library and should be able to download it in the future.
On January 4, 2019, Unreal PT, a nearly pixel-perfect clone of the original demo was released. This walkthrough contains notes about changes made to this version of the game, specifically the method for acquiring a single picture piece and the ending.
When the demo begins, players find themselves in a small room with an unlocked door. Exit the room through the door and make your way around the corner and through the door at the end of the hall and down the stairs. Pass through the door at the bottom of the staircase to re-enter the hallway and begin a new “loop”.
Continue to the end of the hallway to the stairway door, which is now closed. Turn around and walk back to the door you started the loop at – the door on your left will start shaking (this door leads to the bathroom). Once you reach the starting point, head back towards the front hall to discover that the stairway door is now open. Go through it and pass through the loop once more.
Proceed through the hall to the stairwell door. Before you reach the door, it will close by itself. Walk up to the door (so that your controller vibrates) and you will hear a door creak open behind you. Turn around to find the bathroom door cracked open. Bugs will flea the room as you approach. When you get to the door, a baby will start crying from inside.
Peer into the bathroom and press R3 to zoom in. A strange looking creature, resembling a woman, will shut the bathroom door and the loop door will open back up. Go to the end of the hall and reset the loop.
In this loop, be prepared when you turn the corner as a hulking ghoul will have appeared in the foyer. Move towards it and the lights at the far end of the hall will flicker off and the monster will disappear. The path to the stairway is now clear and you can reset a new loop.
Turn the corner to see the bathroom door open entirely. Head inside to find a flickering flashlight on the floor. Zoom in on the light to pick it up.
As soon as you pick up the flashlight the door will shut. Look in the sink to find a baby fetus wriggling inside. The baby will start crying. The door to the bathroom is now shut – look into the mirror above the baby in the sink to watch the door creak open. Head back into the hall and go right to move down the stairs and begin a new loop.
Pass once more through the now-derelict halls and down the stairs to begin another loop.
In this new loop, the hallway is almost completely dark. The radio is back on, uttering commands such as “Don’t touch that dial” and / or “Look behind you.” Follow either command when prompted for a ghoulish surprise that will trigger a new loop.
After leaving the small room once again, head back into the darkened halls – you’ll find the photograph in the foyer (next to the radio) is now faded. There’s a message scrawled on it – “Gouge it out!” – and a large blue ‘X’ beneath the female figure in the photo. Press the X button while focusing on the image to burn out one eye and unlock the stairway door.
Go through the loop once more and notice the addition of a message on a wall in the foyer reading “I can hear them calling to me from” – pass through the loop again into the “red hall”, and move under the fridge and down the stairs once more to solve the next puzzle and continue.
When you start the next loop, the word “Hello!” is written on the wall above the phone. Move to the foyer and examine the “calling to me from” message, then return to the phone and examine “hello!”, then go back to the foyer. Notice that the letter L is now on the wall – continue moving back and forth from the foyer to the phone until the message reads “I can hear them calling to me from HELL,” then pass down the stairs and through the door to move into another loop.
After a single pass through the hall – wherin the fridge has been replaced by a swinging red light – go through the door and enter the distorted red hallways. Run along them until you come to a picture frame that has fallen off the wall, revealing a hole behind it. Peer through the hole and hold down R3 while you listen to the audio.
Once you’re forced out of the viewhole, the text “No turning back now” will appear on the wall – continue down the hallway until you reach a normally-lit foyer, then pass through the door at the base of the stairs.
After passing through the loop once more, feel free to walk around the well-lit halllway. After a few moments, the video will appear to glitch and sounds will begin to play (including the numeric sequence 204863). Eventually the game will cut out to a red or yellow screen reading either “I’m headed there now” or “I’ll call later” in various languages.
Picture Piece Locations
- On the floor beneath the clock, among the discarded cans and bottles.
- On the vase which hold the potted plant, to the right of the clock.
- Beneath the window near the phone, near the teddy bear on the floor.
- Lodged in the ceiling beam between the foyer and the bathroom
- On the stairway leading down to the Loop door.
- In the Options menu (press R3 while in the menu to collect this piece)
Note: In Unreal PT, you can pick up this piece in the between the cabinet that holds the radio and the wall. It’s sitting on the floor.
Congratulations, You have reached the final puzzle. This is a good time to thank those around the web who fought with this puzzle for hours to come up with a solution.
The puzzle at the end of the Playable Teaser is currently the topic of much heated debate among the gaming community. Hideo Kojima has mentioned in interviews that he (and the development team) were expecting gamers to take upwards of a week to discover the final puzzle, yet the teaser was revealed within a few hours of the game appearing on PSN.
NOTE: There seem to be multiple solutions to the “final puzzle” at the end of P.T. Three things are consistent with each method:
- Everything must be attempted after the clock strikes midnight.
- Players should have a microphone or headset plugged into their Dualshock 4 controller. Note: This is not required in Unreal PT.
- In order for the phone to ring, you must hear a baby laugh 3 times.
- Walking exactly ten paces in any direction will trigger a laugh.
- After the second laugh, FREEZE. Do not move, do not adjust the camera – after a few seconds your controller will begin to vibrate. Remain motionless until the vibrations cease entirely, and the third laugh will trigger.
- The phone will begin to ring after all three laughs.
The most ambiguous step is triggering the second laugh. These are the most reliable options that have been tested so far – if you think you know the “official” solution, let us know in the comments below – or simply edit this wiki page!
This method has been tested several times here at IGN, and seems to work most of the time. While we had a microphone plugged in, we weren’t actively speaking into it during any of our successful completions.
After the bells chime, wait for “the haunting” – the strange noises accompanied by spooky background music – to end, then trigger the first laugh by walking ten steps in any direction.
To trigger the second laugh, players must locate the source of Lisa’s (the ghost’s) sounds – as opposed to avoiding her, as in other methods. There are three main areas she will appear at, and they can be deciphered by listening to the noise during each haunting:
- The Radio: This will begin with electronic static and what sounds like a soft voice saying “ha ha ha”.
- The Phone: Similar to the radio, it begins with static and continues with heavy breathing.
- The Mirror: Instead of static, the distorted sounds of a woman crying will sound – this indicates that Lisa is possessing the bathroom mirror.
TIP: You can try and force Lisa to spawn in the bathroom mirror by waiting for a haunting to begin between the entry door and the clock. The mirror is the safest area to interact with the ghost, as she cannot attack you.
When you figure out where the sound is coming from, head to that object – being cautious to not get attacked by the ghost. Examine the object until the haunting ends, and after a few attempts at this the laughter should be triggered.
Once you enter the final loop immediately go to the digital clock and wait for it to change to 0:00. Once the bell tolls midnight, you will hear the ghostly wailing audio and breathing. Head to the old radio near the exit and inspect it by pressing (R3) then immediately move over to the telephone near the window and inspect it by pressing (R3) to trigger the first laugh from the baby.
Begin making noise (you can scream in faux terror if you like, or simply rattle the microphone) until two more baby laughs are triggered – this may take some time. The phone will start ringing and the controller will start vibrating. Answer the phone by examining it with (R3) to hear the “You have been chosen” message and the sound of an unlocking door. Exit through the Loop door to complete the teaser and view the trailer.
After the chimes strike 00:00 and you’ve completed the 10-Step laughter, seek out the ghost and attempt to communicate with her through your microphone.
Players have reported various phrases that have successfully triggered a laugh, including:
- “Hello, Lisa.”
- Randomly muttering into your microphone

Have your own trick to passing the end of the Silent Hills P.T.? Let us know!
The “final solution” to P.T. has been the subject of much debate since it’s release, as the second giggle seems to be triggered by a plethora of different actions. Some players have reported it occuring in a pause screen, while other say that talking to the ghost is a necessary component, while many others claim that it’s entirely random – perhaps a cruel joke on the part of Kojima. Here are other theories for the solution to the final puzzle from the IGN community.
At midnight after the bells run to the radio and listen and wait. You will hear moaning.
After the moaning wait for the music and everything to go silent. As soon as it does rush rush rush to the phone. The baby should giggle. Then just keep staring at the phone and yelling as loud as you can. The baby should giggle once. then keep yelling. After a few minutes. I mean a few and do not zoom out if you can help it. It may mess it up the baby should giggle again.</span>
Then the camera should let you zoom in more as the phone rings. hit x the guy will talk to you. and youll hear the unlock. Run to the exit loop door. Do not look around. Dont risk losing just in case.

After the bells chime wait for the haunting. When it ends walk ten steps to any direction to trigger the first laugh.
The second laugh is a lot harder to trigger, you can try to talk to Lisa or simply examine the source of the haunting, but it usually doesn’t work. What did work in this method was pausing the game. After a few minutes (approximately 5 minutes or so) on the pause you’re gonna hear the second laugh. When that happens get back to the game and the controller will begin to vibrate. When it vibrates YOU HAVE TO FREEZE. Do nothing, just wait for the vibration to stop. When it stops you should hear the third and final laugh a few seconds later.
Then, the phone will start to ring. Examine the phone until you hear “you’ve been chosen”. When you hear a door unlocking walk down the stairs on the loop door and enter. You will see the teaser for the game shortly after.
I think I have the solution or part of it.
It’s amazing what these two geniuses have done, so that we find the solution together.
I knew I should will be after the clock 00:00 pm.
I knew that maybe making noise or talking on the mic cause the baby laugh …
He knew that giving 10 steps every giggle. Actually it was all I really knew was happening.
And I had read that after the second laughter had to sit still and wait for the laughter and third dualshock vibration.
The problem was that if the first laugh was triggered by the ten steps, could not make the baby laugh for the second time.
What happened was that I was looking at the clock at 00:00 and Lisa appeared between the clock and the door first. Accidentally, because I could not find the solution I cried! That triggered the first laugh.
Then I went to the radio and looked at the wall where it says “I hear them calling me from hell” happen to be from there to the phone there are exactly 10 steps! So I walked to the phone and I was still there.
This triggered the second laugh and it was a matter of waiting for the third and the phone call.
I think the phrase “I hear them calling me from hell” is obviously related to the phone call and the ten steps between the wall and the phone !!
At least that’s my interpretation.
After triggering the first baby laugh, wait by the entrance near the stairs. Once the haunting with the woman crying begins, run to the bathroom and zoom into the mirror and wait until the haunting ends. Run outside to the right and wait in the hallway until the haunting with the static and noise (moaning I believe) begins. Immediately run to the radio and zoom in. A faint noise like laughter will start and as soon as it ends run to the phone and zoom in. While still holding zoom, the second loud baby laugh will trigger and then let go of zoom. Do not move at all and the controller will begin to shake. Wait for that to end, and the phone will begin ringing. Zoom into the phone and until a voice says, ” You have been chosen” and you hear the door unlock. Walk through the door at the end of the hallway and exit, triggering the cutscene.
-I had headphones plugged in but I don’t think that had anything to do with it.
– I may have walked 10 steps from the radio to the phone.
-Time has to be 00:00
Everyone may have to do something else in order to get the final cutscene at the end of the game. The following is what I did, word for word.
1. After I completed everything, I went on to collect the remaining picture peices. See wiki for the locations of said items.
(Plug in your PS microphone as I had mine in the entire time)
2. After I collected the items, I went down the stairs and looped the room. After I did this, I walk over to the front door and try to leave. No luck. I go backwards and head back to the door that I came out from. When you hear that the door is locked by walking into it, you’ll get the first baby cry. If you have no luck, try going to the Bathroom and you may encounter the Ghost, then you should head to the door I mentioned previously.
3. Once you’ve got the first cry down, head back to the basement and loop the room. Now everything should be different – your flashlight will be blue. Go over to the clock and watch it until the time strikes 0:00. Stay still and do not move until all the sounds are done, or until you hear the second laugh from the baby.
4. Now either walk ten paces forward in any direction or head towards the Radio and look at it with R3. If you do either of the following, once you hear the baby laugh for a third time, quickly run to the phone and stare at it with R3. Do not let go, do not move at all, and wait for everything to stop. The phone will then ring. The keep ringing for me until I said “Hello?” in the microphone. It was either quaincidence or luck that the phone picked up and answered me at that time.
Now hopefully you’ll be able to experience the final cutscene on your own without having to YouTube it. Don’t give up.
This is of my own personal experience. I can not garuntee that this will work for you, but it did for me.
I had a mic plugged in and the hallway light on (don’t think either mattered but worth mentioning)
Start off by walking over to the clock and looking at it (no zoom) until it goes off. Hold still until the first haunting comes and goes. (Skip the 10 steps for a laugh method) Immediately start a loop of zooming in on the “I can hear them calling to me from hell” message, the phone, the “Forgive me Lisa…” message, and the radio. DO NOT attempt to locate the source of the haunting, I tried that for days and it never worked. In fact, it might be a mind trick.
This takes patience, after several loops I got the first baby laugh near the phone. Continue the loop repeatedly and you should get the second laugh by the phone again then hold completely still and the controller should start vibrating, wait for it to finish, wait for the ring, zoom in, hit X and it should be all she wrote.
This may seem random but following the message on the picture it sort of made sense. “My voice, can you hear it?” = hearing the first haunt. “This sign can you read it” = looking at the “I can hear them calling me from hell” message. “I’ll wait forever if you’ll just come to me” = the endless loop of her trying to lure you to the haunting spot.
POSSIBLE “OFFICIAL” SOLUTION
This solution was founded by The Grate Debate. For a detailed (and interesting) explanation on how The Grate Debate came up with this solution using P.T.’s in game clues.
1.) Wait for the clock to strike midnight. After the haunting ends, walk 10 steps to trigger the first laugh.
2.) Wait for another haunting to start. Near the end of the haunting, after Lisa stops crying, but before the haunting is over, whisper “Jarith” into the microphone. It will take 5-10 seconds for the voice recognition of P.T. to register that you whispered it correctly. This should trigger the second laugh. If not, wait for another haunting and try again. (Note: The Grate Debate was able to get this to work 30 times in a row)
3.) After the 2nd laugh the controller should start to vibrate shortly. When it does, stand perfectly still, and continue to stand still until you hear the third and final baby laugh. Soon afterwards, the phone will begin to ring. Zoom in on the phone until you hear “You’ve been chosen”. Then leave by exiting the hallway as normal to trigger the ending teaser.
Please note, you don’t have to trigger the 10-step laugh first and then the whisper. You can trigger the whisper laugh first and then the 10 steps if you like. Just make sure that the 10 steps come after the haunting ends. And make sure not to try any of it until after the clock strikes midnight.
I try this solution 3 times in a road and it work 100% and from all the ones that i have tried so far i think this solution was the best one.
Unreal PT Ending Solution
In Unreal PT there is a confirmed method to get the ending — it is written in a readme file named Guide that you download with Unreal PT.
Unreal PT Ending Guide
Follow these steps to see the Unreal Ending.
- Stand next to the phone facing the first door, staying completely still.
- Don’t move until the chiming stops.
- Once it stops, walk forward exactly 10 paces, then freeze until you hear a baby laugh.
- Turn around and walk through the hallway until you spot Lisa.
- The trick here is to stand close enough to see her but not close enough where she can possess you.
- When she finally disappears, you’ll hear a 2nd baby laugh.
- Once triggered, stand completely still until you hear a 3rd baby laugh.
- After triggering the 3rd baby laugh, the phone will begin to ring.
- Zoom in on the phone with R3 to answer it.
- Once you hear the door unlock, leave through the hallway door a final time to complete the game.
Note: In this version there’s a different ending without Norman Reedus. You can watch that ending — and the full Unreal PT walkthrough here:
