When is Father’s Day in 2020? Here you will discover everything you need to know
That’s how long you have to plan the perfect Father’s Day for your Dad.

Summer will be here before you know it, and together with it a pretty important date for all fathers out there. You imagined it: We’re talking about Father’s Day. Although most sons and daughters don’t need a specific date to celebrate the most significant man in their lives, every father in the country has his special day on the calendar.

This year’s celebration may look a little different with everything that’s going on in the world, but you should still take the time to commemorate the day, even if it’s some virtual Father’s Day ideas. If you can’t eat together, you might be able to surprise him with a delivery of his favorite Father’s Day brunch recipes on the porch or even amazed him with a mail-order meat delivery so he can grill his favorite meal.

It was never meant to be like this, but the annual vacation can be surprisingly stressful when you have to find the perfect Father’s Day gift for the man who insists he doesn’t need anything. (And let’s face it, sometimes a Father’s Day card alone is simply not enough).

You may now ask yourself: “Well, when is Father’s Day in the year 2020?” Here we tell you all you need to know about the vacation, including its history.

Before you begin to think about what to bring your father for his day, you can relax a little, as there is still some time left to plan a Father’s Day brunch or even to work your crafty side with a DIY gift idea for Dad. This year, Father’s Day is on Sunday, June 21, 2020.

Don’t ever feel bad if this date is new to you. The celebration varies from day to year. If you have ever forgotten, remember that Father’s Day always coincides with the third Sunday in June, and then check the calendar accordingly.

Unlike Mother’s Day, which has a fairly dark origin, Father’s Day has relatively light roots – and was actually created by a woman. According to, in 1909 a woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd tried to “create an official equivalent of Mother’s Day for male parents”.

However, she went to local businesses to gather support for her thought an ideas, and on June 19, 1910, Washington State marked the very first Father’s Day.

Although the event was motivated and inspired by President Woodrow Wilson and President Calvin Coolidge after convincing Americans to acknowledge a special Day for Fathers during their term of office, it was still not an official holiday. Unfortunately, their enthusiasm for the commemoration did not last long. In the 1920s and 1930s, people tried to do away with both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day and replace them with the Parents’ Day instead.

During the Great Depression, retailers tried to commercialise vacations to make a living in difficult economic times. And when the Second World War began, people used Father’s Day to pay tribute to the American troops.

Some decades later, on May 1, 1972, President Richard Nixon finally signed a Proclamation decree in 4127, which declared Father’s Day a national holiday, with the first official celebration on June 18, 1972: “Let every American use Father’s Day as an opportunity to renew the love and gratitude we have for our fathers that has grown and continued over the years,” he wrote in the decree document.
